Hill to Backyard Joy

Backyard Transformation Project

This backyard transformation project involved a significant overhaul to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing outdoor space. The property originally had a hill that began at the deck, leaving no usable backyard area. To address this, we undertook a major excavation, removing 995 tons of dirt from the hill.

Retaining Wall Construction:

To stabilize the newly leveled area, we constructed a 12-foot-high retaining wall. This wall is reinforced with a geo grid system, providing extra stability and ensuring long-term durability. The retaining wall also serves a dual purpose, doubling as a planting bed for the landscape, adding both functionality and beauty to the space.

Water Management:

To ensure the new backyard remains dry and usable, we strategically added yard drains to direct water away from the area. This drainage system helps to prevent water accumulation and maintain a dry, comfortable space for outdoor activities.

Additional Features:

Privacy Fence: To enhance the sense of seclusion and security, we installed a privacy fence around the perimeter of the backyard.
Delaware River Rock: We incorporated Delaware River rock into the design to give the space a natural and serene feel. This choice of material complements the overall aesthetic and adds a touch of rustic charm.
Overall Impact:

The result is a transformed backyard that offers ample space for outdoor activities and relaxation. The combination of the retaining wall, privacy fence, natural elements, and effective water management creates a harmonious and inviting environment. This project not only maximized the use of the property but also significantly enhanced its visual appeal and functionality.

This project was a rewarding challenge, turning a previously unusable hillside into a beautiful and practical backyard space.
